Holiday Learning

Welcome back to the final term of 2020 everyone. We have a busy term ahead with pets day, colour fun run, boxing, powerhouse workshops, swimming, book week, just to name a few!

We had a literacy and numeracy challenge happening over the holiday break and it was pleasing to see so much home learning happening. Below is a presentation sharing a few of the wonderful projects that were happening. We will continue to add to this as more come in.

Calendar Art

This year to help fundraise for our school trips we are selling some products containing our children's art work. The children had two art sessions with Miss Wilson to produce the art and attached is a sample of your child's art work. Go through the slideshow until you find your child's art work.

You can buy a calendar for $12, a set of 8 blank cards for $12, a mouse pad for $14, a sketch pad for $14 and a diary for $14.

Your child has been given an order form and we require all orders to be back in by Friday the 16th of October, which is the Friday of week 1 term 4. Delivery will be November so these make great Christmas gifts.

Thanks in advance for your support.

The team at Awahono School.

How To Make A Quality Blog Comment...

We have been learning how to write quality blog comments on blogs. We know that we need a nice friendly greeting and share what we loved about the blog post. Next we could share something that we know about the topic (this shows the reader that we have read their work and are interested in it). We can then offer something helpful, for example we could say: Maybe you could... (and offer something about their learning where they could deepen their understanding or learning). Lastly we finish with a question to find out more information. We practised writing a quality blog comment on a fridge activity. Check out our google slide below to see how you can be a quality blog commenter like Room Two.

Amazing Bucket Filling Ideas

We have been learning about how to bucket fill in our classroom. Bucket filling is doing and saying kind things to other people. When you bucket fill you fill your bucket and somebody else's. It makes everybody feel really happy to bucket fill! As a class we brainstormed ideas about bucket filling and how we could each fill our own bucket and somebody else's. We have shared the ideas we came up with on a google slide below. See if you can comment on other ideas on how we could fill people's buckets...

We we very impressed with how independently Cohen work on his costume from the beginning to the end. Also we congratulated Alice for her effort and enthusiasm with the reading plus program. Alice works very hard with her reading and has been very successful with this program.

Amazing Wearable Arts Costumes!

In term two we planned how to make our very own wearable arts costume. We spent the term gathering recyclable materials to make our costumes. As the term went by we created our costumes. They started to look very good! On the second Friday of term three we walked around the catwalk a couple of times in front of our families, friends and judges to show off our wearable arts costumes. Some students got a certificate for the most creative, most original, most backstory, and most recyclable costumes and they received a prize. Have a look at some of our costumes we created on the google slide below.

Home Learning Ideas

Kia Ora.  The following are a list of websites and ideas that the children can be using from home to support their learning over the following weeks.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

https://maths.prototec.co.nz/ Basic facts practise

https://stepsweb.com/ . Spelling and phonics practise

https://www.whizz.com/en-nz/schools/maths-whizz/ . Maths activities based at the childrens' level.

https://login.readingplus.com/ A reading comprehension site that some of our students are working on.

https://www.writinglegends.com/ An online tool to help support the children with their writing.

https://www.literacyshed.com/home.html A website with many prompts and videos to support your child with writing ideas.

Please remember that this is a stressful and uncertain time for everyone including the children.  The tools above are there to be used when is works for you and your child.  Reading to and with your child, playing board games, baking etc are all great ways to utilise this time.
Please do not put too much pressure on yourself to make sure they are completing `school tasks' all day every day.  Nga Mihi

Welcome back!

Kia Ora, welcome back to term one!  We hope you’ve all had a great holiday. Over the next few weeks we will be spending time setting up classroom routines and expectations. Our classroom group programmes will begin next week as we are working on setting these up now. We are working on whole class mathematics with the topic being ‘money’. Throughout the term the children will be earning money for a variety of tasks both in class and in the playground. This money will go into their own online bank account where they will be saving towards something they wish to purchase from our class shop. Each child has an individual login to their bank account to track their money.

Our year 4 students are learning about their chromebooks and how to complete aspects of their work on these devices. As the year goes on they will learn to share their learning through their individual blogs. In the meantime all of room two will share their work through this class blog, so be sure to come check it out regularly and leave comments.

We look forward to a fantastic term ahead!
